The workshops for children organized by the Pera Museum’s Learning Programs begin with the idea of change and transformation highlighted in Frank Bowling: Creation and Destruction, With Interruptions by Francis Bacon and Victor Willing. Building on the exhibition’s reexamination of the relationships between color, form, surface, figure, and space—and between creation and destruction, order and chance—children experience how a work can transform by letting paint flow, layering surfaces, cutting and reassembling pieces, altering portraits, or giving new forms to everyday objects. In some works, emerging coincidences determine the direction of the process, while in others, an image is reconstructed through various interventions and fragments.

Observing the artists’ distinct yet intersecting approaches in the exhibition creates space for children to experiment with different possibilities rather than approaching painting through a single “correct” path. A face can be fr
