Balkan Wedding Party hosted by Kolektif İstanbul will take place on May 5 at Babylon!

At this night that will make you forget every halay you’ve ever danced and drive you out of your mind, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, uncles with twirling mustaches, and aunts breaking their necks to the rhythm will gather on the dance floor to progressive wedding music infused with punk, jazz, and electronic sounds.

Since 2006, Kolektif İstanbul has released four albums: Balkanatolia, Krivoto, Kerevet, and Pastırma Yazı. Drawing inspiration from jazz and funk foundations, the band blends Anatolian and Balkan music from a unique perspective. Continuing to share their joyful performances with audiences, they released their fifth studio album Kısmet in the spring of 2021 simultaneously in Europe and Turkey.

Rejecting the idea of being confined to a single genre, the group prefers to play with forms across styles. They have delivered acclaimed performances at major international festivals such as Montreux Jazz Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, The Flow Festival, and Fira Mediterrania. Known also for their candid videos, the band is composed of Richard Laniepce on saxophone, Aslı Doğan on vocals, Batuhan Baraç on drums, Ertan Şahin on sousaphone, Tamer Karaoğlu on keyboards, and Talat Karaoğlu on clarinet.
