About
Directed by Laura Citarella, Trenque Lauquen follows a narrative that freely and masterfully moves across genres, gradually expanding the story of a missing woman through ever-growing layers of mystery.
When Laura, who is in the Argentine town of Trenque Lauquen to work on a plant inventory, suddenly disappears, her boyfriend Rafael and her colleague Ezequiel, with whom she has grown close, begin to trace the missing woman’s steps. Yet this search turns into a labyrinthine journey that follows desire, curiosity, memory, coincidence, and above all, the very nature of storytelling itself. While carefully observing the everyday rhythm of provincial life, the film gradually expands its own universe through letters, rumours, missing stories, and events that resist explanation.
The film had its world premiere in the Orizzonti section of the 79th Venice Film Festival, where it received widespread acclaim, and was later screened at major festivals including Toronto, San Sebastián, and New York.
