Information about the Sunken City of Kekova and Kalekoy
Kekova is the name of the incredible region comprised of large and small islands and coves between Kas and Demre. Kekova gets its name from Kekova Island, one of the biggest islands in the region.
The real attraction is the sunken city, located on Kekova Island. The city was leveled after earthquakes during the Lycian Era, in the 1st century CE, and a large portion of it was buried under the sea. The region is now under special protection.
Just across from the sunken city lays one of the country’s most beautiful villages, Kalekoy. We visit Kalekoy on our boat tours of Kekova. Everything in the village, including the streets, is made of stone and sits on a peninsula. There is no road running to the village. Perc
