Okay Temiz (born February 11, 1939, in Istanbul, Turkey) is a pioneering Turkish fusion jazz percussionist and drummer. Known for his innovative rhythmic language and unique instruments, he is regarded as one of the most influential figures connecting Turkish traditional rhythms with modern jazz. Okay Temiz concerts present a powerful blend of global rhythms and contemporary jazz.

Influenced by his mother, Naciye Temiz, who was classically trained in music, Okay Temiz began his professional career in 1955. He studied at the Ankara State Conservatory and the Tophane Art Institute, laying the foundation for his distinctive musical approach.

After meeting trumpeter Maffy Falay and legendary jazz musician Don Cherry, Temiz settled in Sweden. In 1971, he toured the United States and Europe with Don Cherry and bassist Johnny Dyani. In 1972, he founded the band Xaba together with Dyani and trumpeter Mongezi Feza.

Okay Temiz’s music combines African, Anatolian, and Middle Eastern rhythms with jazz improvisation. He is also known for inventing his own drums, made of hand-beaten copper and inspired by traditional Turkish darbuka. Through this unique vision, Okay Temiz has become a highly respected and influential figure in the international jazz scene.
