Serdar Canan is an ethnomusicologist, musician, and researcher whose work focuses particularly on Kurdish music. Born in 1986 in Yüksekova, Hakkâri, Canan began studying Ethnomusicology at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2009 and completed his master's degree in 2019.

Having taught himself to play the bağlama in 1997, Serdar Canan worked with Efkan Şeşen between 2014 and 2016, performing concerts and live shows in different cities across Turkey. Alongside his musical work, he continues to conduct field research and collect musical material from different regions of Anatolia, documenting and reinterpreting the oral heritage of traditional music.

Focusing extensively on the traditional music of Hakkâri and its surrounding regions, Canan expanded his research into regional musical heritage through interviews and fieldwork with different dengbêjs in Ağrı and Muş in 2017. He has also conducted Kurdish vocal and diction workshops and participated in various cultural and artistic projects.

Serdar Canan brings traditional Kurdish music repertoire together with contemporary arrangements, reinterpreting and preserving these works for new audiences. Through works such as "Behare Bilbil", "Şerfedîn", "Baran Baran", "Gulnîşan", and "Şekir Axa (Şeng)", he continues to introduce traditional music to diverse audiences through concerts in Turkey and abroad.
