About

Noah Benjamin Lennox (born 1978), better known by his stage name Panda Bear, is an American musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and a co-founding member of the experimental music group Animal Collective. Alongside his work with the band, Lennox has maintained a highly influential solo career, releasing six solo studio albums since 1999.

Panda Bear gained widespread critical acclaim with his 2007 album “Person Pitch”, a release often credited with shaping and inspiring the chillwave genre and influencing numerous contemporary artists. His later albums, “Tomboy” (2011) and “Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper” (2015), further solidified his reputation and both reached the Billboard 200 chart.

Raised primarily in Baltimore, Maryland, Lennox developed his musical foundation early on. He sang tenor in his high school chamber choir and studied both piano and cello. His stage name “Panda Bear” originates from his teenage habit of drawing pandas on his early mixtapes.

In the late 1990s, Lennox began collaborating with the other members of Animal Collective, contributing significantly to the band’s experimental sound and global influence. Beyond the group, he has worked with a diverse range of artists, including Daft Punk on the 2013 single “Doin’ It Right”, Dean Blunt on the track “9”, Braxe + Falcon on their 2020 single “Step by Step”, and Sonic Boom on the 2022 collaborative album “Reset”.

Since 2004, Panda Bear has been based in Lisbon, Portugal. His music is widely recognized for its layered vocal harmonies, experimental textures, and emotional depth. As both a solo artist and a member of Animal Collective, Lennox remains one of the most influential figures in modern experimental and alternative music.
