Being referred to as the“hip-hop generation’s excellent jazz musician”, master American pianist and vocalistJose James has already made his mark in many countries the world over. Influenced by legendary names such as John Coltrane, Marvin Gaye and Billie Holiday, James mixes hip-hop, jazz and soul genres in a succesful way. His music style reminds many of 70’s icons Gil Scott and Terry Callier. Jose James released his first album “Dreamer”  last year from Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label and the album has received critical and popular acclaim on “top 50 jazz albums of 2008”  lists compiled by music critics. In the same year he has played in prestigious festivals such as the North See Jazz Festival, Vitoria Jazz Festival and London’s Royal Festival Hill. During his music career, Jose James has worked with Gilles Peterson, Basement Jaxx, Jazzanova and Flying Lotus among others.  Jose James’s performance is destined to be one of the most outstanding concerts of Akbank Jazz Festival program.
