Known as two of the most productive musicians in Norway, guitarist Terje Rypdal and pianist Ketil Bjørnstad will perform together for the first time at Akbank Jazz Festival. Classically educated on piano, Rypdal taught himself how to play guitar and became a succesful multi-instrumentalist. As he strenghtened his guitar skills by playing Clapton and Hendrix he ended up creating his own style by mixing jazz, rock, classic and ambient tunes. Although Ketil Bjørnstad is widely known as a pianist, he is also famous for his compositions as an arranger, and for his books and critiques as a writer. Having introduced his first project at the age of 16, he has contributed to  more than 50 albums, and today Bjørnstad is known as one of the most prestigious jazz musicians in Europe. The duo’s performance will be a unique chance to see how acoustic piano’s pure, fluid and melodic world meets electric guitar’s raw, rigid and uncompromised character.
