"6, Alps & Jazz"
Alps, horns, sinuous songs: The evening’s motto could be “Alpine Wood and Horns” or “Alphorn Glow”. This is the new home of Bavarian Alpine jazz.

The group’s repertoire is largely inspired by the Alps and their folk music: On the one hand, simple Alpine folk songs infused with modern harmonies and grooves. On the other, new compositions by the ensemble members and their friends. The culmination of the program is – incredibly – catchy, foot tapping Turkish folk songs. This concert will introduce you to the secret, jazzy side of German and Turkish folk music.

This sextet of wind players offers a wide variety of combinations and tone colours, especially because its multi-instrumentalist members play over 20 different woodwind and brass instruments. All of the woodwinds are also jazz saxophonists – You can start with a classical woodwind quintet (perhaps the first one to play jazz):
clarinet, oboe, flute, horn and bassoon, but that woodwind quintet can suddenly become a saxophone quartet ... that might stumble upon an alphorn duo here and there. Four of the available instruments can carry the bass line as required: horn, bassoon, bass clarinet and sousaphone. Any of the instruments can cover a melody part. This is a very democratic lineup! All six members of the ensemble are also
idiosyncratic soloists. Picture a blues solo on the bassoon or an oboe solo in the style of ... say, Florian Trübsbach. There’s no shortage of tone colours in this band ...
The featured soloist is band leader Matthias Schriefl on trumpet, but for particularly melancholy songs from his mountain homeland, he might pick up the flugelhorn and when things really get hot, he accompanies the band on sousaphone. As a native of the Alps, he brings real passion and a little mountain hut magic (and madness) to this music.

Your six experienced musical mountain guides may choose the hardest mountain trails – serpentine melodies open only to the well- practiced – and sometimes deep chasms of humor and darkness may open up under this music. But even if you’re a flatlander afraid of heights, the daring paths the musicians follow are are subject to regular maintenance by the Alpine Jazz Club and all musical safety  standards are adhered to. You’ll be safe in the hands of these accomplished mountaineers!
Walking shoes and rain gear optional, ears a must!

Matthias Schriefl is currently working with:

- Matthias Schriefl Trio: an alpine milk cow chewing edelweiss, a weavering New Orleans Brass Band endlessly loops around in a roundabout, a melodically powerful grooving pop band and a classical chamber ensemble wearing Mozart wigs: The Matthias Schriefl transposes all these paradoxes into actuality.
- “6, Alps and Jazz” is a "Brass, Wood and Saxtett": The Sextett creates an almost orchestral scope. They can easily switch from a modern classical Wind-Quintet plus Jazz Trumpet to a Jazz Saxophone Quartet with two Alphorns. And in the next tune 3 bavarian clarinets, 2 horns and a bassoon play a traditional Bavarian “Zwiefacher” in which 2 piccolo flutes have an engaged discussion with a sousaphone.
- Shreefpunk: Jazz, Punk and sometimes even Strings.
- European TV Brass Trio: with Daniel Casimir (trombone) und François Thuillier (tuba) three originals join forces as brass players and composers.
- Schmittmenge Meier: musicians from Berlin and Cologne play contemporary acoustic jazz.
- Brazilian Motions (with singer and texter Patricia Cruz): Brazilian-inspired music for string quartet and jazz combo.
- Deujazz (with singer Anette von Eichel): German jazz from the first half of the 20th century.
- 2 Generations of Trumpets (with Andy Haderer): swinging compositions by Schriefl. The two trumpeters are also heard on baritone horn, valve trombone, piccolo trumpet and various horns.
- United Groove-O-Rama: contemporary grooves with electronic effects; compositions by Mattis Cederberg and Matthias Schriefl
- Mutantenstadl: Bavarian jazz-comedy.
-DUOS with: Bodek Jahnke, Kalle Mathiesen, Johannes Behr, Robert Landfermann and Michael Abene

"Actually, I identify most intimately with my band Shreefpunk. The compositions I write for this band are like a personal diary. I am very happy to have three of my favourite jazz musicians and best friends in this band. With each rehearsal and concert, the music develops, because everyone is contributing his personality and soul "Matthias Schriefl
